Originally, the procession was established in 1349 to pay homage to Saint Waudru after the city of Mons was allegedly spared from the plague. This annual commemoration gradually transformed into a lasting tradition, eventually set on Trinity Sunday (57 days after Easter). Over the centuries, the celebration evolved, incorporating legendary and community elements.

On Saturday evening, the descent of the shrine of Saint Waudru takes place, a solemn ceremony in the collegiate church that gathers the faithful and the curious. On Sunday morning, the historical procession begins: more than 1,600 costumed participants parade, mixing brotherhoods, parish groups, musicians, and choristers. The procession culminates with the ascent of the prestigious Golden Carriage, lifted by hundreds of arms up the Sainte-Waudru Ramp, symbolizing Mons' attachment to its founder.
The fight called "Lumeçon" — Saint George against the Dragon

After the procession, the festival reaches its peak with the battle between Saint George and the Dragon. In an improvised arena, costumes, music, popular excitement, and legendary symbols intertwine.
